I'm glad that Thomas Saenz is making strong and public statements about LGBT inclusion in comprehensive immigration reform (CIR). What's needed is not so much including LGBT issues in CIR, but ensuring that we have an LGBT analysis of CIR. Certainly UAFA is a very clear example of how our communities are affected by the broken immigration system. But we need to know more about how our communities are affected by asylum laws that do not protect us sufficiently from well-founded fear of persecution, or how unauthorized LGBT individuals and their families have unique challenges like reporting hate crimes to police who may or may not be deputized to enforce immigration law. By making more direct and personal connections to the broader agenda of CIR, LGBT activists will be better equipped to fight for LGBT inclusion in the debates on comprehensive immigration reform from a more authentic place.

Thank You, for that excellent address, Rea!

This is Our Time! This is Our Moment! And this is the New Civil Rights Movement of the 21st century in these United States. As freedom loving Americans, We Want & Need those Basic Human & Civil Rights NOW! No more excuses, No more waiting! This means we must "come out," organize, and mobilize with passion and work to secure those rights with all the sense of urgency that exists in our very beings. Then fight any oppressive secular or religious institution that denies us our freedom and civil rights as Americans!
